Similiphoma Valenz.-Lopez, Crous, J.F. Cano, Guarro & Stchigel, in Valenzuela-Lopez et al., Stud. Mycol 90: 37 (2018).

Saprobic on hosts. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Conidiomata pycnidial, brown, confluent or solitary; pycnidium wall of textura angularis, glabrous or with short hyphal outgrowths, globose to subglobose, with one or two papillate ostioles. Conidiogenous cells phialidic, hyaline, smooth-walled, globose or ampulliform. Conidia aseptate, hyaline, smooth- and thin-walled, ellipsoidal to cylindrical, guttulate (adapted from Valenzuela-Lopez et al. 2018).

Type species: Similiphoma crystallifera (Gruyter, Noordel. & Boerema) Valenz. -Lopez, Crous, J.F. Cano, Guarro & Stchigel

Notes: Similiphoma morphologically resembles Ectophoma, Epicoccum and Phoma. Morphological features of Similiphoma are limited. Similiphoma can be distinguished from similar genera based on DNA sequence data. Molecular markers available for Similiphoma are ITS, LSU, BTUB and RPB2.
