Remotididymella Valenz.-Lopez, Crous, Cano, Guarro & Stchigel, in Valenzuela-Lopez et al., Stud. Mycol. 90: 35 (2017).

Index Fungorum number: IF 819990; Facesoffungi number: FoF 08233, 3 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 3 species with molecular data.

Pathogenic on human and plant. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Conidiomata pycnidial, brown to dark brown, mostly confluent. Pycnidial wall of textura angularis, mostly glabrous, globose or irregularly-shaped, with a single ostiole. Conidiogenous cells phialidic, hyaline, smooth-walled, globose or ampulliform. Conidia aseptate, hyaline, smooth- and thin-walled, allantoid or cylindrical, guttulate (adapted from Valenzuela-Lopez et al. 2018).

Type species: Remotididymella destructiva (Plowr.) Valenz.-Lopez, J.F. Cano, Crous, Guarro & Stchigel

Notes: Remotididymella is characterised by pycnidial, brown to dark brown conidiomata, phialidic, hyaline, smooth-walled conidiogenous cells and aseptate, hyaline, allantoid or cylindrical, guttulate conidia. Jayasiri et al. (2019) added the sexual morph of Remotididymella as R. bauhiniae. Remotididymella is morphologically and phylogenetically a distinct and well-defined genus in Didymellaceae. Molecular markers available for Remotididymella are LSU, SSU, ITS, Actin, BTUB, RPB2.
