Importance and distribution

There are nine Monascostroma epithets in Index Fungorum (2022), but three species have been transferred to Mycosphaerella and Stagonospora. Monascostroma comprises nine species known on plants such as Castanea sp. (Fagaceae), Cladium mariscus (Cyperaceae), Juncus sp. (Juncaceae), Scheuchzeria palustris (Scheuchzeriaceae), Sphagnum sp. (Sphagnaceae) and Typha angustifolia (Typhaceae). Monascostroma is distributed in Europe (Denmark, Poland, Sweden, United Kingdom) and The United States (Pennsylvania).
