Chaetasbolisia

Chaetasbolisia Speg., Physis, Rev. Soc. Arg. Cienc. Nat. 4(no. 17): 293 (1918).

Index Fungorum number: IF 7559; Facesoffungi number: FoF 07144, 7 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 2 species with molecular data.

Saprobic or pathogenic on host. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Conidiomata pycnidial, solitary, globose to subglobose, superficial, black, ostiolate. Pycnidial wall textura angularis, with long branched septate fuliginous hyphal outgrowths or glabrous. Conidiogenous cells phialidic, hyaline, smooth, globose, ampulliform to lageniform. Conidia globose, broad ovoid, cylindrical or oblong, hyaline, smooth- and thin-walled, aseptate, eguttulate or guttulate (adapted from Griffon and Maublanc 1909; Spegazzini 1918).

Type species: Chaetasbolisia erysiphoides (Griffon & Maubl.) Griffon & Maubl.

Notes: In the phylogenetic study of Hou et al. (2020), Chaetasbolisia forms a well-supported lineage distinct from other genera of Didymellaceae. Hou et al. (2020) emended the generic circumscription of Chaetasbolisia to include species characterised by glabrous pycnidial conidiomata and cylindrical or oblong conidia. Chaetasbolisia is currently a distinct genus in Didymellaceae but more collections with DNA sequence data is needed to confirm the taxonomic placement of the genus. Molecular markers available for Chaetasbolisia are ITS, LSU, SSU, BTUB, RPB2 and TEF-1.
