Importance and distribution
Allophoma comprises eleven species known on several host plants such as Gazania sp. (Asteraceae), Lantana camara (Verbenaceae), Pelargonium graveolens (Geraniaceae), Catharanthus roseus (Apocynaceae), Solanum lycopersicum (Solanaceae), Emilia sonchifolia (Asteraceae), Platostoma palustre (Lamiaceae), Syzygium aromaticum (Myrtaceae), Peperomia sp. (Piperaceae) and Piper longum (Piperaceae) amongst others. Allophoma is of importance as it causes leaf spot of lettuce and other economically important crops (Gullino et al. 2017). Allophoma is distributed in Africa, Asia (China (Taiwan), Indonesia, Iran), Europe (Germany, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands), Oceania (Solomon Islands) and South America amongst others.
