Neodendryphiella

Neodendryphiella Iturrieta-González, Dania García & Gené, in Iturrieta-Gonzalez et al., MycoKeys 37: 25 (2018).

Index Fungorum number: IF 824664; Facesoffungi number: FoF 08058, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 1 species with molecular data.

Saprobic or pathogenic in leaf. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Conidiophores semi-macronematous to macronematous, mononematous, erect or slightly flexuous, unbranched or branched towards the apical region, septate, subhyaline to brown, smooth to verrucose, cylindrical, some slightly swollen in the conidiogenous loci. Conidiogenous cells integrated, terminal or intercalary, polytretic, cylindrical or clavate, forming conidia in acropetal branched chains. Ramoconidia aseptate or septate, pale brown, smooth to verruculose, mostly cylindrical or subcylindrical, rounded apex and truncate base, with several pores and conidial scars often thickened and darkened. Conidia blastocatenate, aseptate or septate, pale brown, verruculose to verrucose, ellipsoidal, doliiform, clavate or subcylindrical, with scars thickened and darkened (adapted from Iturrieta-González et al. 2018).

Type species: Neodendryphiella tarraconensis Iturrieta-González, Gené & Dania García

Notes: Neodendryphiella is characterised by semi-macronematous to macronematous conidiophores, integrated, terminal or intercalary conidiogenous cells, aseptate or septate, pale brown, smooth to verruculose ramoconidia, and blastocatenate, aseptate or septate, pale brown conidia. Neodendryphiella resembles Dendryphiella in having differentiated conidiophores and polytretic integrated conidiogenous cells, that produce acropetal branched chains of conidia. Neodendryphiella differs from Dendryphiella in that the latter has nodulose conidiophores and conidiogenous cells with pores surrounded by a thickened and darkened wall, which are lacking in Neodendryphiella. Neodendryphiella is a distinct and well-defined genus in Dictyosporiaceae. Molecular markers available for Neodendryphiella are ITS, LSU and SSU.
