Dictyopalmispora

Dictyopalmispora Pinruan, Boonmee & K.D. Hyde, in Boonmee et al., Fungal Diversity. 80: 457–482 (2016).

Index Fungorum number: IF 551575; Facesoffungi number: FoF 01258, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), No molecular data available.

Saprobic on decaying leaves of palms in freshwater habitats. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Hyphomycetous. Conidiomata punctiform, sporodochial, scattered, pulvinate. Conidiophores semi-macronematous. Conidiogenous cells monoblastic, determinate. Conidia complanate, euseptate, 4 rows of cells, rows converging near apex; apical cell of each row extended into allantoid to clavate, hair-like, hyaline appendages (adapted from Boonmee et al. 2016).

Type species: Dictyopalmispora palmae Pinruan & K.D. Hyde

Notes: Dictyopalmispora is characterised by punctiform, sporodochial conidiomata, semi-macronematous conidiophores, and complanate, euseptate conidia. Dictyopalmispora resembles Dictyosporium in having complanate conidia with 4–5 rows of cells and apical appendages but differs in that the former genus has an appendage on the apex of each row while Dictyosporium has an appendage only on the outer rows of cells. Dictyopalmispora was introduced based only on its unique morphology which are sporodochial colonies and euseptate, complanate conidia, with special hair-like extensions formed from apical cells of all 4 rows and is accommodated within its own family Dictyosporiaceae. The holotype specimen of D. palmae (BBH 39848) is in poor condition hence we provide a drawing based on Boonmee et al. (2016).
