Ohleriella

Ohleriella Earle, Bull. New York Bot. Gard. 2(no. 7): 349 (1902).

Index Fungorum number: IF 3558; Facesoffungi number: FoF 08205, 2 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

Habitat terrestrial, saprobic. Sexual morph: Ascomata small to medium size, solitary, scattered, or in small groups, erumpent to nearly superficial, papillate, ostiolate. Peridium thin, thicker at the apex, 1-layered. Hamathecium of dense, long trabeculate pseudoparaphyses. Asci 8-spored, bitunicate, fissitunicate, cylindrical, with a short pedicel. Ascospore brown to reddish brown, broadly to narrowly fusoid, 3-septate, easily separating into two parts at the primary septum. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Zhang et al. 2012).

 Type species: Ohleriella neomexicana Earle

Notes: Ohleriella is characterised by small to medium size ascomata, bitunicate, fissitunicate, cylindrical asci, and brown to reddish brown, broadly to narrowly fusoid ascospores (Barr 1990). Several authors treated Ohleriella as a synonym of Ohleria, Sporormiella and Preussia (Ahmed & Cain 1972, Arx & Müller 1975, Clements & Shear 1931, Zhang et al. 2012). Barr (1990) introduced two new species, O. herculea and O. nudilignae. Ohleriella morphologically resembles Sporormiella but differs in that the former is saprobic on grass while Sporormiella is found on dung of Bubalus bubalis. Ohleriella is a distinct genus in Delitschiaceae but molecular data is needed to confirm the taxonomic placement of the genus.
