Astragalicola

Astragalicola Jaklitsch & Voglmayr, in Jaklitsch et al., Stud. Mycol. 90: 82 (2017).

Index Fungorum number: IF 823000; Facesoffungi number: FoF 08183, 2 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 2 species with molecular data.

Saprobic on stem. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Pycnidia scattered or aggregated in groups on wood and bark, more or less superficial, globose, non-papillate, black; contents with a waxy to gelatinous consistency; ostiolar opening apical; peridium pseudoparenchymatous. Phialides and conidiophores densely aggregated at inner side. Conidiophores simple or branched. Phialides lageniform to cylindrical or sigmoid. Conidia formed on phialides, their base cells or lateral pegs on conidiophores, oblong or narrowly ellipsoid, straight or curved, 1-celled, hyaline, guttulate (adapted from Jaklitsch et al. 2018).

Type species: Astragalicola amorpha Jaklitsch & Voglmayr

Notes: Astragalicola is characterised by scattered or aggregated pycnidia, simple or branched conidiophores, and oblong or narrowly ellipsoid conidia formed on phialides. The second species A. vasilyevae was introduced by Wanasinghe et al. (2018). Astragalicola differs from Phoma by the presence of conidiophores and from Pyrenochaeta by the absence of setae (Jaklitsch et al. 2018). Astragalicola is morphologically and phylogenetically a distinct genus in Cucurbitariaceae. Molecular markers available for Astragalicola are ITS, LSU, SSU, BTUB, GAPDH, RPB2 and TEF-1.
