Neothyrostroma

Neothyrostroma Crous, in Crous et al., Persoonia 43: 257 (2019).

Index Fungorum number: IF 832863; Facesoffungi number: FoF 09981, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

Pathogenic on host. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Conidiomata sporodochial, black, superficial on leaves, solitary. Conidiophores arising from brown stroma, subcylindrical, hyaline, smooth, branched, septate. Conidiogenous cells subcylindrical, hyaline, smooth, terminal and intercalary, proliferating percurrently at apex. Conidia solitary, brown, smooth, fusoid ellipsoid, apex acutely rounded, base truncate, distoseptate, with 3–5 horizontal septa, and 3–5 oblique or vertical septa (adapted from Crous et al. 2019).

 Type species: Neothyrostroma encephalarti Crous

Notes: Neothyrostroma is characterised by sporodochial, black, superficial conidiomata, subcylindrical, hyaline, smooth conidiophores and solitary, brown, smooth, fusoid ellipsoid conidia. Neothyrostroma resembles Thyrostroma but is phylogenetically distinct. Neothyrostroma can be differentiated from similar genera in having distoseptate conidia. Neothyrostroma is morphologically and phylogenetically a distinct genus in Amorosiaceae. Molecular markers available for Neothyrostroma include ITS, LSU and TEF-1.
