Lahmiomyces

Lahmiomyces Cif. & Tomas., Atti Ist. bot. Univ. Lab. crittog. Pavia, sér. 5 10: 39, 66 (1953).

Index Fungorum number: IF 2632; Facesoffungi number: FoF 08129, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

Saprobic on host. Sexual morph: Ascomata obpyriform, asci clavate and paraphysoids arranged in a hymenium covered by a thin epithecium formed by the branching apices of the paraphysoid. Ascospores 3-septate, fusiform attenuated at the apices. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Aguirre-Hudson 1991).

Type species: Lahmiomyces piceae Cif. & Tomas.

Notes: Lahmiomyces is characterised by obpyriform ascomata, asci and paraphysoids arranged in a hymenium and fusiform ascospores. The type specimen of Lahmiomyces piceae from BM was misidentified as Leptorhaphis lucida (Aguirre-Hudson 1991). Lahmiomyces differs from Leptorhaphis in ascomatal structure. Lahmiomyces also lacks pseudoparaphyses which are present in Leptorhaphis. Eriksson (1986) placed Lahmia piceae (= Lahmiomyces piceae) in Patellariaceae. Jaklitsch et al. (2016) also treated Lahmiomyces in Patellariaceae. The relationship of Lahmiomyces to other genera within Patellariaceae is unknown as molecular data is lacking. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the taxonomic placement of the genus. Lahmiomyces needs epitypification.
