Pseudolembosia

Pseudolembosia Theiss., Annls mycol. 11(5): 432 (1913).

Index Fungorum number: IF 4448; Facesoffungi number: FoF 02333, 4 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

Pathogenic on living leaves. Sexual morph: Perithecia densely gregarious, with round blackish black spots, elongate-flexible, in algal weave. Asci subclavate, short, pedicellate, octospores. Ascospores oblong, mid-septate, at length slightly sub-constricted to septum, yellowish brown. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from description of Lembosia geographica in Massee 1899).

Type species: Pseudolembosia geographica (Massee) Theiss.

Notes: Pseudolembosia is characterised by densely gregarious perithecia, subclavate, short, pedicellate asci and oblong, mid-septate, yellowish brown ascospores. Inácio and Cannon (2008) accepted four species in Pseudolembosia. Pseudolembosia is a distinct genus in Parmulariaceae. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the taxonomic placement of the genus. The type species P. geographica needs to be re-collected and Pseudolembosia must be epitypified.
