Importance and distribution

There are 42 Hysterostomella epithets in Index Fungorum (2022), but several species have been transferred to Cocconia, Dothidasteromella, Inocyclus, Pachypatella, Polycyclina, Polycyclus, Pseudothis, Rhagadolobium and Viegasia. Hysterostomella comprises 25 species known on a wide range of hosts such as Ardisia crispa (Primulaceae), Artocarpus communis (Moraceae), Asparagus sp. (Asparagaceae), Boscia coriacea (Capparaceae), Chionanthus foveolatus subsp. foveolatus (Oleaceae), Davilla rugosa (Dilleniaceae), Elaeis guineensis (Arecaceae), Gymnosporia lepidota (Celastraceae), Linociera foveolata (Oleaceae), Lomaria imperialis (Blechnaceae), Maerua racemulosa (Capparaceae), Olea foveolata (Oleaceae), Oxyanthus gerrardii (Rubiaceae), Protasparagus striatus (Asparagaceae) and Tetracera alnifolia (Dilleniaceae). Hysterostomella is reported from Africa (Congo, Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya), Asia (Malaysia, Philippines), South America (Brazil) and The United States (Florida).
