Ferrarisia Sacc., Atti Inst. Veneto Sci. lett., ed Arti, Sér. 8 10: 61 (1919).
Index Fungorum number: IF 1986; Facesoffungi number: FoF 02309, 8 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.
Colonies epiphyllous on Merremia sp. Superficial mycelium absent and appear as blackened areas on the leaf surface. Sexual morph: Thyriothecia superficial, confluent to scattered, with circular to irregular, covering membrane dark brown to black composed with cells. Hamathecium composed of filliform, sub hyaline, pseudoparaphyses. Asci 8-spored, hyaline, bitunicate, globose or subglobose, obovoid to clavate, short pedicellate or without pedicel. Ascospores ellipsoid to fusiform, usually two-celled, normally unequal, obviously constricted at septa, upper cell wider, lower cell narrow and longer, hyaline, then turning to brown when spores are mature, wall smooth. Asexual morph: Unknown.
Type species: Ferrarisia philippina Sacc.
Notes: Ferrarisia is characterised by superficial, confluent to scattered thyriothecia, globose or subglobose, obovoid to clavate asci and ellipsoid to fusiform, usually two-celled hyaline to brown ascospores. The current name for the type species F. philippina is F. ipomoeae (Inácio & Cannon 2008). Arx and Müller (1975) transferred Ferrarisia jasmini to Palawaniella. Inácio and Cannon (2008) provided an updated account on Ferrarisia. Ferrarisia is currently a distinct genus in Parmulariaceae but lacks molecular data. DNA sequence data from fresh specimen are needed to confirm the correct taxonomic placement of the genus.
