Saprobic on host. Sexual morph: Hypophyllous stroma, sparse, superficial, orbicular, with black lines, obtusely papillate in the middle, with a whole or minute fimbriate, in a membranous-carbonaceous context, radially cellulose, brownish, perithecia with innate stroma, elliptic-linear, distinct, radiating or joined at the end and then a continuous ring forming a necklace, with hysterioid ostioles. Notes: Cyclostomella is characterised by hypophyllous, sparse, superficial, orbicular stromata, club-shaped, 16-spored asci and simple, ovate, brown ascospores. Molecular data is lacking for Cyclostomella. Inácio and Cannon (2008) provided a morphological comparison of four taxa of Cyclostomella. Cyclostomella is currently a distinct genus in Parmulariaceae. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the taxonomic placement of the genus.
