Cycloschizon Henn., Bot. Jb. 33: 39 (1902).

Saprobic on host. Sexual morph: Stromata superficial, black, circular, flat, carbonaceous, opening by one circumferential. Asci 8-spored, ovoid, clavate to subglobose, thick-walled. Ascospores subclavate to ellipsoid, uniseptate, hyaline. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Hennings 1902).

 

Type species: Cycloschizon brachylaenae (Rehm) Henn.

 

Notes: Cycloschizon is characterised by superficial, black, carbonaceous stromata, ovoid 8-spored asci and subclavate,uniseptate, hyaline ascospores. Cycloschizon is currently a distinct genus in Parmulariaceae. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the taxonomic position of the genus. Cycloschizon needs epitypification.
