Cocconia placenta

Cocconia placenta (Berk. & Broome) Sacc., Syll. fung. (Abellini) 8: 738 (1889).

Importance and distribution

There are 27 Cocconia epithets in Index Fungorum (2022), but several species have been transferred to Asterina, Cycloschizon, Dianesea, Englerodothis, Hysterostomella, Ophiodothella, Phaeochorella and Polystomella. Cocconia comprises fourteen species known on Astrocaryum sp. (Arecaceae), Ochna sp. (Ochnaceae), Coccoloba laurifolia (Polygonaceae), Trichilia emetica (Meliaceae), Halleria lucida (Stilbaceae), Miconia sp. (Melastomataceae), Symplocos glauca (Symplocaceae), Olea laurifolia (Oleaceae), Sabal sp. (Arecaceae) and Artocarpus elastica (Moraceae). Cocconia is reported from Africa (Kenya), Asia (Malaysia, Taiwan), North America (Caribbean, The United States) and South America (Brazil).
