Importance and distribution

There are 26 Lophium epithets in Index Fungorum (2022), but several species have been transferred to other genera such as Glyphium, Lophodermium, Mytilinidion, Ostreichnion, Ostropa, Sigarispora and Zoggium. Lophium comprises six species known on wide range of host plants such as Abies fraseri (Pinaceae), Arctostaphylos patula (Ericaceae), Chamaecyparis lawsoniana (Cupressaceae), Citrus limonum (Rutaceae), Cupressus glabra (Cupressaceae), Dryas crenulata (Rosaceae), Eriophorum vaginatum (Cyperaceae), Fagus sp. (Fagaceae), Juncus balticus var. montanus (Juncaceae), Juniperus communis (Cupressaceae), Larix decidua (Pinaceae), Lonicera involucrata (Caprifoliaceae), Picea glauca (Pinaceae), Pinus sp. (Pinaceae), Pseudotsuga menziesii (Pinaceae), Salix alaxensis (Salicaceae) and Tillandsia fasciculata (Bromeliaceae). Lophium has a wide geographical distribution including Asia (China, Russia), Europe (Germany, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, United Kingdom), Oceania (New Zealand), South America (Argentina, Canada, Chile) and the United States (Alaska, California, Florida, North Carolina, Oregon).
