Xenoramularia
Xenoramularia Videira, H.D. Shin & Crous, in Videira, Groenewald, Braun, Shin & Crous, Stud. Mycol. 83: 96 (2016)
Index Fungorum number: IF 816822; Facesoffungi number: FoF 08570; 3 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2021), 3 species with molecular data.
Associated with leaf spots. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Mycelium composed of hyaline, septate, branched hyphae. Conidiophores hyaline to pigmented, solitary, simple, straight or slightly curved, often reduced to conidiogenous cells, thin-walled, smooth. Conidiogenous cells hyaline, integrated in the mycelium or terminal in the conidiophores, subcylindrical to geniculate-sinuous, with one or multiple thickened but not darkened conidiogenous loci. Conidia hyaline, thin-walled, smooth, formed singly or catenate, aseptate or uniseptate, subcylindrical, apex obtuse to subacute, base truncate; hila thickened but not darkened (adapted from Videira et al. 2017).
Type species: Xenoramularia polygonicola Videira, H.D. Shin & Crous
Notes: Xenoramularia resembles Ramularia but can be differentiated based on reduced conidiophores that are solitary in culture, seldom with sparsely developed fascicles on host tissue, hyaline, but sometimes slightly pigmented and with conidial hila and conidiogenous loci that are thickened. Xenoramularia has low support in phylogeny but is distinguished based on morphological differences. Molecular markers available for Xenoramularia are ITS, LSU, Actin, GAPDH, Histone, RPB2 and TEF-1.
