Walkaminomyces

Walkaminomyces Crous & Carnegie, in Crous et al., Stud. Mycol. 94: 284 (2019).

Index Fungorum number: IF 832059; Facesoffungi number: FoF 11226, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 1 species with molecular data.

Leaf spots amphigenous, irregular, small (5 mm diam) to large spreading blights with irregular margins. Sexual morph: Ascomata pseudothecial, amphigenous, immersed, becoming erumpent, black, globose. Asci aparaphysate, fasciculate, bitunicate, subsessile, obclavate to ellipsoidal, straight to incurved, 8-spored. Ascospores multiseriate, hyaline, guttulate, straight, fusoid-ellipsoidal with obtuse ends, medianly uniseptate. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Crous et al. 2019).

Notes: Walkaminomyces is characterised by pseudothecial, amphigenous, immersed ascomata, aparaphysate, fasciculate, bitunicate, subsessile asci and multiseriate, hyaline, guttulateuniseptate ascospores. Walkaminomyces is morphologically and phylogenetically a distinct genus in Mycosphaerellaceae. Molecular markers available for Walkaminomyces include ITS, LSU and RPB2.
