Sporidesmajora

Sporidesmajora Batzer & Crous, in Yang et al., Persoonia 24: 35 (2010).

Index Fungorum number: IF 514400; Facesoffungi number: FoF 07644, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 1 species with molecular data.

Saprobic or pathogenic on host substrate. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Hyphomycetous. Mycelium consisting of branched, septate, brown, finely verruculose hyphae, frequently constricted at septa, and at times giving rise to terminal clusters of brown chlamydospores. Conidiophores erect, subcylindrical, frequently somewhat clavate, medium to dark brown, finely verruculose, at times with percurrent rejuvenation, 1–multi-septate; base arising as lateral branch directly from hyphal cell, or swollen and bulbous. Conidiogenous cells terminal, medium brown, subcylindrical to subconical; apex neither darkened nor thickened, truncate, holoblastic. Conidia obclavate to long obclavate, straight to curved, medium brown, smooth to finely verruculose, guttulate, transversely multi-euseptate; apex obtuse, base obconical, frequently darker pigmented than the rest of the conidium (adapted from Yang et al. 2010).

Type species: Sporidesmajora pennsylvaniensis Batzer & Crous

Notes: Sporidesmajora differs from Sporidesmium in having long, multiseptate conidiophores that often have a sub conical, darker pigmented apical cell, developing to give rise to a single holoblastic conidium. Conidia are obclavate, often very long, multi-euseptate, and slightly curved, having a rather darker, obconical basal cell. Sporidesmajora is a distinct genus in Phaeothecoidiellaceae. Molecular markers available for Sporidesmajora include ITS, LSU and RPB2.
