Rhabdospora

Rhabdospora (Durieu & Mont.) Sacc., Syll. fung. (Abellini) 3: 578 (1884).

Index Fungorum number: IF 9707; Facesoffungi number: FoF 08651, 60 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 3 species with molecular data.

Associated with leaf spot. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Pycnidia (perithecia) subcuticular-erumpent, globose-depressed, papillate, solid, soon subhysterioid, black or brown, usually neither on spots nor on leaves. Conidia bacilliform or filiform, pluriguttulate or pluriseptate, hyaline (adapted from Saccardo, 1884; Videira et al., 2017).

Type species: Rhabdospora oleandri (Durieu & Mont.) Sacc.

Notes: Rhabdospora is characterised by subcuticular-erumpent, globose-depressed, papillate pycnidia and bacilliform or filiform, pluriguttulate or pluriseptate conidia. Many species of Rhabdospora have been transferred to Septoria. The holotype specimen is lost. The type species R. oleandri must be re-collected to clarify the phylogenetic position of the genus. The placement of Rhabdospora in Mycosphaerellaceae is doubtful. Molecular markers available for Rhabdospora are ITS, LSU, SSU, Actin, BTUB, Calmodulin, GAPDH, Histone, RPB2 and TEF-1.
