Ramularisphaerella

Ramularisphaerella Kleb., Haupt- und Nebenfruchtformen der Ascomyzeten (Leipzig) 1: 131 (1918).

Associated with leaf spot. Sexual morph: mycosphaerella-like. Asexual morph: Pycnidia punctiform, maculiform. Conidia ramularia-like (adapted from Klebahn, 1918; Videira et al., 2017).

Type species: Ramularisphaerella hieracii (Sacc. & Briard) Kleb.

Notes: Ramularisphaerella is characterised by a mycosphaerella-like sexual morph on Hieracium. Jaap (1908) considered Ramularisphaerella as the sexual morph of Ramularia hieracii. Klebahn (1918) considered Ramularisphaerella to be linked to Ramularia. The holotype of R. hieracii is lost and the generic placement of Ramularisphaerella is doubtful. Klebahn (1918) showed the relationship between Ramularisphaerella and Ramularia based on the ascus and conidial state and suggested Ramularisphaerella as a synonym of Ramularia but this has not been confirmed by molecular data. The placement of Ramularisphaerella in Mycosphaerellaceae is doubtful. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the taxonomic position of the genus.
