Importance and distribution
Pseudostigmidium comprises five lichenicolous species known on thallus of Pseudocyphellaria sp. (Lobariaceae), on soil and rock, parasitic on thallus and apothecia of Nephromium cellulosum (Nephromataceae) and on Nothofagus pumilio (Nothofagaceae) in South America (Chile). They associate with lichen thalli, either as saprobes colonizing dead lichen thalli, or parasites that receive fixed carbon from living lichen hosts (Lawrey & Diederich, 2003).
