Leaf spots amphigenous, subcircular to angular-irregular, often vein-limited at first pale greenish, yellowish-ochraceous, later pale to dark brown, dull brown, margin indefinite or narrow, dark, often with a diffuse yellowish, rarely purplish halo, patches often confluent, sometimes large leaf segments or almost entire leaves discolored necrotic. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Caespituli amphigenous, hypophyllous, punctiform to dense, greyish white. Mycelium internal, hyphae hyaline, septate, branched, forming small to moderately large substromatal stromata, colorless or pale, composed of somewhat swollen hyphal cells. Conidiophores in small to fairly rich, loose to usually fairly dense fascicles, arising from stromata, emerging through stomata, erect, straight subcylindric to geniculate-sinuous, simple, rarely branched, 0-1 septate, rarely with some additional septa, hyaline, smooth, conidial scars somewhat thickened and darkened. Conidia catenate, occasionally in branched chains, ellipsoid-ovoid, subcylindric(-fusiform), 0-3 septate, hyaline, almost smooth to verruculose, ends rounded to somewhat attenuated, hila somewhat thickened and darkened (adapted from description of Ramularia geranii in Braun 1998).

Notes: Pseudophaeoramularia is characterised by amphigenous, subcircular to angular-irregular leaf spots, amphigenous, hypophyllous caespituli, loose to usually fairly dense fascicles of conidiophores, subcylindrical (-fusiform), 0–3-septate conidia. Pseudophaeoramularia has been considered as a synonym of Pseudocercospora and Ramularia but this was not confirmed with molecular data (Crous and Braun 2001; Crous et al. 2013a). Taxa with unthickened scars and little thickened scars, are not informative at the generic level in Pseudophaeoramularia. The placement of Pseudophaeoramularia in Mycosphaerellaceae is doubtful. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the taxonomic position of the genus.
