Pseudoepicoccum

Pseudoepicoccum M.B. Ellis, Dematiaceous Hyphomycetes (Kew): 270 (1971)

Pathogenic on leaf. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Colonies on leaf spots brown, with circular zones, with blackened elevated centres and yellow margins, up to 1 cm diam. Stromata superficial, hemispherical, brown, pseudoparenchymatous. Sporodochia punctiform, dark brown. Conidiophores macronematous, mononematous, straight or slightly flexuous, septate, unbranched, pale brown, smooth-walled. Conidiogenous cells integrated, terminal, sympodial, cicatrized. Conidia solitary, dry, aseptate, simple, acropleurogenous, subspherical, pale brown, minutely verrucose (adapted from Pratibha et al. 2014).

 

Type species: Pseudoepicoccum cocos (F. Stevens) M.B. Ellis 1971

 

Notes: Pseudoepicoccum was introduced by Ellis (1971) with P. cocos as type species. Pseudoepicoccum is characterized by brown pseudoparenchymatous stromata, macronematous, mononematous conidiophores, aseptate pale brown conidia. In the phylogenetic analyses of Pratibha et al. (2014), Pseudoepicoccum is closely related to Piedraia from the family Piedraceae in the order Capnodiales. The taxonomic placement of Pseudoepicoccum is still uncertain and is currently in Capnodiales, genera incertae sedis.
