Plurispermiopsis

Plurispermiopsis Pereira-Carv., Inácio & Dianese, in Pereira-Carvalho, Inácio & Dianese, Mycologia 102(5): 1163 (2010).

Index Fungorum number: IF 515215; Facesoffungi number: FoF 09696, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2021), molecular data unavailable.

Saprobic on host. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Colonies effuse, epiphyllous, superficial. Mycelium superficial, pale brown. Hyphae septate, branched, pale brown; hyphal cells cylindrical or monilioid. Ascomata ostiolate, globose or ovoid, superficial, unilocular, smooth. Peridium with texture ranging from globose to angular. Asci broadly clavate, subglobose or ovoid, bitunicate, aparaphysate, approximately 64- spored. Ascospores hyaline, elliptical to fusoid, 1–2-septate but seldom threeseptate, short-appendiculate (Adapted from Pereira-Carv et al. 2010).

Type species: Plurispermiopsis cerradensis Pereira-Carv., Inácio & Dianese

Notes: Plurispermiopsis is characterised by superficial, pale brown mycelium, cylindrical or monilioid hyphal cells, ostiolate, globose or ovoid ascomata, subglobose or ovoid asci and elliptical to fusoid, 1–2-septate ascospores. Pereira-Carvalho et al. (2010) placed Plurispermiopsis in Capnodiales genera incertae sedis based on morphology of the mycelium, ascomata and asci. DNA sequence data is needed to confirm the taxonomic placement of Plurispermiopsis in Capnodiales.
