           Description:

Leaf spots circular to irregular, 1–5 mm diam. pale brown to greyish in the centre, and with dark brown margin. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Caespituli hypophyllous, inconspicuous. Mycelium 2–3 µm wide, internal, hyphae branched, septate, constricted at the septa, subhyaline to pale brown, smooth-walled. Stromata 35–38 µm diam., oval or ellipsoidal, dark brown to black, smooth-walled. Conidiophores 32–35 × 5.2–6 µm (x̄ = 32 × 5.5 µm, n = 10), fasciculate, arising from stromata, not branched, typically short, cylindrical, septate, distance between septa 13–14 µm, uniformly pale olivaceous-brown to brown, smooth-walled. Conidiogenous cells 8–10 × 5.2–6 µm (x̄ = 9.2 × 5.4 µm, n = 10), integrated, terminal, cylindrical, conidiogenous loci small, at the apex, conspicuous, ovoid to oval, somewhat thickened, but distinctly darkened. Conidia 40–55 × 4.4–7.8 µm (x̄ = 48.0 × 4.6 µm, n = 10), solitary, obclavate or cylindrical, straight to curved, 2–6-septate, pale olivaceous brown, smooth-walled, tip subobtuse, base obconic, hila 1–3 µm wide, thickened and darkened wall.

Importance and distribution

Pluripassalora comprises only one species known from Bougainvillea stipitata in South America (Argentina). Pluripassalora is reported from Asia (Thailand), North America (Caribbean, the United States) and South America (Argentina, Venezuela) (Ellis 1976).
