Importance and distribution

Species of Phacellium are parasitic forming leaf spots. There are 29 Phacellium epithets in Index Fungorum (2022), but several species have been transferred to Graphium, Ramularia and Ramulaspera. Phacellium comprises fourteen species known on wide range of plants such as Alangium platanifolium (Cornaceae), Annona cherimola (Annonaceae), Brachybotrys paridiformis (Boraginaceae), Cerastium sp. (Caryophyllaceae), Comptonia peregrina (Myricaceae), Lathyrus pratensis (Fabaceae), Myosoton aquaticum (Caryophyllaceae), Myrica gale (Myricaceae), Sanguisorba sp. (Rosaceae), Stellaria alsine (Caryophyllaceae) and Turpinia megaphylla (Staphyleaceae). Phacellium seems to be host-specific as each species occurs on a specific host plant or genus. Phacellium is reported from several countries such as Asia (China, Russia, South Korea), Europe (Finland, Iceland, Norway, Poland, Romania, Sweden, Ukraine) and North America (Canada, Mexico).
