Oreophylla
Oreophylla Cif., Sydowia 8(1-6): 253 (1954).
Index Fungorum number: IF 9171; Facesoffungi number: FoF 08633, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.
Biotrophic. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Mycelium internal, superficial hyphae lacking. Conidiophores in fascicles, arising from an immersed pseudostromatic base, erect, brown, unbranched, straight to tortuose, septate. Conidia solitary, acrogenous, cylindrical-attenuated, transversely pluriseptate, straight to curved, hyaline (adapted from Videira et al. 2017).
Type species: Oreophylla angelae-mariae Cif.
Notes: Oreophylla is characterised by fascicles of erect, brown conidiophores and solitary, acrogenous, cylindrical-attenuated conidia. Oreophylla angelaemariae was previously considered a synonym of Sirosporium gliricidiae (Deighton in Ellis 1976). Braun et al. (1999) suggested O. angelae-mariae as a synonym of Passalora gliricidiasis. Crous and Braun (2003) treated Oreophylla as a synonym of Passalora s. lat. but this was not confirmed by molecular data. The placement of Oreophylla in Mycosphaerellaceae is doubtful. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the taxonomic position of Oreophylla.
