Neokirramyces

Neokirramyces Crous, in Crous et al., Persoonia 43: 267 (2019).

Index Fungorum number: IF 832869; Facesoffungi number: FoF 11172, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 1 species with molecular data.

Associated with leaf spot. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Conidiomata amphigenous, pycnidial, immersed, globose, brown; wall of 3–6 layers of brown textura angularis. Conidiophores reduced to conidiogenous cells lining the inner cavity, brown, smooth to finely verruculose, ampulliform to subcylindrical, proliferating percurrently near apex. Conidia solitary, subcylindrical, prominently curved, guttulate, medium brown, smooth, euseptate, apex subobtuse, tapering in basal cell to a truncate hilum (adapted from Crous et al. 2019).

Type species: Neokirramyces syzygii Crous

Notes: Neokirramyces is characterised by amphigenous, pycnidial, immersed conidiomata, ampulliform to subcylindrical conidiophores proliferating percurrently near apex and solitary, subcylindrical conidia. Neokirramyces resembles the asexual morph of Teratosphaeria but is phylogenetically distinct. Neokirramyces is phylogenetically related to Sonderhenia (Mycosphaerellaceae) but differs morphologically in having euseptate conidia that are kirramyces-like in morphology. Molecular markers available for Neokirramyces include ITS and LSU.
