Hyalodothis

Hyalodothis Pat. & Har., Bull. Soc. mycol. Fr. 9(4): 210 (1893).

Index Fungorum number: IF 2387; Facesoffungi number: FoF 08616, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

Glumicolous. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Stromata superficial, encrusting ovaria and fruits, black, effuse pulvinate, coriaceous or subcarbonaceous, sclerotiform, with numerous immersed little loci. Pseudoparaphyses not seen. Asci 8-spored. Ascospores oblong, aseptate, hyaline (adapted from Saccardo, 1895; Videira et al., 2017).

Type species: Hyalodothis clavus Pat. & Har.

Notes: Hyalodothis is characterised by superficial effuse pulvinate stromata, 8-spored asci and oblong, aseptate, hyaline ascospores. Arnold (1967) proposed Hyalodothis was a nomen confusum since the type species comprise two different fungi that were used to describe Hyalodothis. Arnold (1967) mentioned that the type specimen is part of Patouillard collection (no.597) in FH but the specimen cannot be located online. The placement of Hyalodothis in Mycosphaerellaceae is doubtful. Hyalodothis needs epitypification. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the taxonomic placement of the genus.
