Haplodothis Höhn., Sber. Akad. Wiss. Wien, Math. -naturw. Kl., Abt. 1 120: 423 (1911).

Associated with leaf spot. Sexual morph: Superficial perithecia, rarely individual subcoriaceous to black subglobose aggregates. Pseudoparaphyses absent. Asci 8-spored, bitunicate, fasciculate, clavate. Ascospores uniseptate, not constricted at septa, hyaline clavate. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from description of Lizonia singularis in Hennings 1903).

 

Type species: Haplodothis singularis (Henn.) Höhn.

 

Notes: Haplodothis is characterised by superficial, subcoriaceous to black, subglobose perithecia, fasciculate, clavate bitunicate, asci anduniseptate, hyaline, clavate ascospores not constricted at the septa. Haplodothis singularis is currently a synonym of Mycosphaerella singularis but this has not been confirmed with molecular data. The holotype specimen of H. singularis is lost. The placement of Haplodothis in Mycosphaerellaceae is doubtful. Fresh specimens with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the taxonomic placement of Haplodothis
