Gomphinaria

Gomphinaria Preuss, Linnaea 24: 130 (1851).

Associated with leaf spot. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Caespituli effuse, brown. Conidiophores erect, subulate, simple, below densely septate and brown, above subhyaline, transparent and aseptate. Conidiogenous cells not observed. Conidia terminal, subapically formed, oblong, hyaline, aseptate, base acute or subapiculate, hila hyaline (adapted from Preuss 1851; Saccardo 1886, as Acrotheca amoena and Videira et al. 2017).

 

 Type species: Gomphinaria amoena Preuss

 

Notes: Gomphinaria is characterised by effuse, brown caespituli, erect, subulate, simple conidiophores, and terminal, subapically formed, oblong, hyaline, aseptate conidia. Gomphinaria is a ramichloridium-like hyphomycete with doubtful phylogenetic placement in Mycosphaerellaceae. Fresh specimens with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the taxonomic placement of Gomphinaria.
