Filiella
Filiella Videira & Crous, in Videira, Groenewald, Braun, Shin & Crous, Stud. Mycol. 83: 88 (2016).
Index Fungorum number: IF 816823; Facesoffungi number: FoF 08501, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2021), 1 species with molecular data.
Phytopathogenic. Mycelium internal, hyaline, septate, branched, forming well-developed stromata composed of swollen hyphae. Asexual morph: Conidiophores emerging in dense fascicles from stromata, through the cuticle or through stomata, sub cylindrical, straight to flexuous, geniculate-sinuous, aseptate, i.e. usually reduced to conidiogenous cells, rarely 1-septate near the base, hyaline to pale yellow at the base, thin-walled, smooth, with inconspicuous conidiogenous loci, unthickened, neither darkened nor refractive. Conidia solitary, acicular, sub cylindrical, filiform, narrowly obclavate, hyaline, discretely septate, thin-walled, smooth, apex subacute, base truncate, hila unthickened, not darkened. Sexual morph: (Adapted from Braun 1993 and Videira et al. 2016).
Type species: Filiella pastinacae (P. Karst.) Videira & Crous
Notes: Filiella was introduced by Videira et al. (2016) with F. pastinacae as type species. F. pastinacae was previously known as Pseudocercosporella pastinacae but it was not congeneric with Pseudocercosporella s. str. based on P. bakeri. In the phylogenetic analysis of Videira et al. (2016), Filiella is closely related to Neopseudocercosporella and Fusoidiella. Filiella can be differentiated from Neopseudocercosporella and Fusoidella in having acicular-filiform conidia while the type species of Neopseudocercosporella, N. capsellae has sub cylindrical conidia and that of Fusoidiella, F. depressa has pigmented, fusiform conidia. Filiella is a distinct and well-supported genus in Mycosphaerellaceae.
