Importance and distribution

Species of Episphaerella are parasitic causing disease or wilting of the host plant. Two species have been synonymized and transferred to Dimeriella and Epipolaeum. Episphaerella comprises eleven species known on leaves of Araucaria angustifolia (Araucariaceae), Chusquea culeou (Poaceae), Amomum tsao-ko (Zingiberaceae), Cleome jamesonii (Capparidaceae), Didymopanax (Araliaceae), Dodonaea viscosa (Sapindaceae), Gymnosporia fasiculata (Celastraceae), Manihot (Euphorbiaceae), Araucaria angustifolia (Araucariaceae) and Miconia argentea (Melastomataceae). Episphaerella is reported from Asia (China), Central America (Chile, Costa Rica), South Africa and South America (Brazil, Ecuador).
