Dictyodesmium
Dictyodesmium S. Hughes, Mycol. Pap. 36: 29 (1951).
Index Fungorum number: IF 7997; Facesoffungi number: FoF 08599, 3 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), molecular data unavailable.
Sporodochia epiphyllous, erumpent, pulvinate, olivaceous brown. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Mycelium immersed forming hyphal cushions at the point of origin of the conidiophores but no definite stroma. Setae and hyphopodia absent. Conidiophores mono- and macronematous, caespitose, crowded, straight or flexuous, unbranched, pale brown, smooth. Conidiogenous cells monoblastic, integrated, terminal, determinate, cylindrical. Conidia solitary, acrogenous, simple, fusiform to obclavate, rostrate, truncate at the base, rather pale olivaceous brown, palest at the ends, smooth, with transverse septa throughout and longitudinal and oblique septa in the central 6–9 cells (adapted from Videira et al. 2017).
Type species: Dictyodesmium ulmicola (Ellis & Kellerm.) S. Hughes
Notes: Dictyodesmium is known only by its hyphomycetous asexual morph characterized by mono- and macronematous conidiophores, monoblastic conidiogenous cells and solitary, acrogenous fusiform to obclavate conidia. The phylogenetic position of Dictyodesmium is uncertain. Fresh collections and sequence data are needed to confirm the placement of Dictyodesmium.
