Collapsimycopappus

Collapsimycopappus A. Hashim., Y. Harada & Kaz. Tanaka, in Hashimoto, Sasaki, Harada & Tanaka, For. Path. 48: e12452, 5 (2018).

Index Fungorum number: IF 824336; Facesoffungi number: FoF 08489, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 1 species with molecular data.

Associated with large zonate leaf spot. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Propagules epiphyllous, brown to dark brown, cheiroid; main bodies doliiform, composed of pale brown to brown, globose to subglobose cells. Hyphal appendages unbranched, flexuous, cylindrical, collapsed when mature; part spores rectangular, brown, smooth or verruciform, phragmosporous or sometimes dictyosporus, 1- to multiseptate, guttulate when young (adapted from Hashimoto et al. 2018).

Type species: Collapsimycopappus styracis A. Hashim., Y. Harada & Kaz. Tanaka

Notes: Collapsimycopappus is characterised by epiphyllous, brown to dark brown, propagules with hyphal appendages that collapse at maturity. Collapsimycopappus resembles Polythrincium in having sporodochial conidiomata and melanized conidia (Simon et al. 2009), but differs in the absence of sympodially growing conidiophores with a spiral appearance. Collapsimycopappus is unique and differs from similar genera in Mycosphaerellaceae in having propagules. Collapsimycopappus is a distinct and well-supported genus in Mycosphaerellaceae. Molecular markers available for Collapsimycopappus are ITS, LSU, SSU and RPB2.
