Cladocillium
Cladocillium Chun-Hao Chen & R. Kirschner, in Chen et al., Mycol. Progr. 19(9): 840 (2020).
Index Fungorum number: IF 835863; Facesoffungi number: FoF 11138, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 1 species with molecular data.
Associated with leaf spot. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Conidiophores macronematous, single, erect, unbranched or rarely branched, but with conidial chains arising in verticils along the conidiophore stipe, pigmented. Conidia in branched acropetal chains, pigmented, rough, conidiogenous cells intercalary and terminal (adapted from Chen et al. 2020).
Type species: Cladocillium musae Chun-Hao Chen & R. Kirschner
Notes: Cladocillium is characterised by macronematous, single, erect conidiophores froming conidia in branched acropetal chains. Cladocillium differs from Cladosporium in having crowded conidiogenous loci, not conspicuously darkened when observed under light microscope but appearing flat or with a raised center under the SEM lacking cleft between center and margin. Chen et al. (2020) referred Cladocillium to Mycosphaerellaceae based on morphology and phylogenetic analyses of LSU, ITS, TEF and RPB2. Cladocillium is morphologically and phylogenetically a distinct genus in Mycosphaerellaceae. Molecular markers available for Cladocillium are ITS, LSU, RPB2 and TEF-1.
