Ceratosperma

Ceratosperma Speg., Physis, Rev. Soc. Arg. Cienc. Nat. 4(no. 17): 284 (1918).

Index Fungorum number: IF 895; Facesoffungi number: FoF 08587, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

Associated with leaf spot. Sexual morph: Ascomata pseudothecial, globose. Asci subglobose, 8-spored, stipitate, aparaphysate. Ascospores oblong, 2–6-septate, constricted at septa, hyaline to olivaceous, smooth. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Videira et al. 2017).

 

Type species: Ceratosperma theobromae (Faber) Speg.

 

Notes: Ceratosperma is characterised by pseudothecial, globose ascomata, subglobose, 8-spored asci and oblong, 2–6-septate ascospores. Very little is known regarding Ceratosperma and the holotype and other authentic specimens are lost. The placement of Ceratosperma in Mycosphaerellaceae is doubtful. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm its generic placement.
