Biharia
Biharia Thirum. & Mishra, Sydowia 7(1-4): 79 (1953).
Index Fungorum number: IF 7369; Facesoffungi number: FoF 08584, 2 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2021), no molecular data available.
Saprobic on host. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Mycelium yellowish brown, emerging through stoma and developing a stroma, from which conidiophores arise. Conidiophores yellowish brown, smooth, septate, geniculate. Conidiogenous cell terminal, polyblastic, proliferating sympodially. Conidia single, yellowish brown, obclavate or cylindrical, echinulate or rugose, septate, simple or with protrusions at the region of septa (Adapted from Thirumalachar and Mishra 1953)
Type species: Biharia vangueriae Thirum. & Mishra
Notes: Biharia is characterised by yellowish brown mycelium, polyblastic conidiogenous cells and obclavate or cylindrical conidia. Deighton (1979) combined the type species of Biharia, B. vangueriae into Stenella and later into Zasmidium by Kamal (2010). Biharia is considered part of the Zasmidium complex. Sequence data is needed to confirm its phylogenetic position. The placement of Biharia in Mycosphaerellaceae is doubtful.
