Neomycoleptodiscus

Neomycoleptodiscus Hern. -Restr., J.D.P. Bezerra & Crous, in Hernández-Restrepo et al., Persoonia 42: 221 (2019).

 Index Fungorum number: IF 829829; Facesoffungi number: FoF 08096, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 1 species with molecular data.

Saprobic on substrate. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Hyphae smooth, hyaline to pale brown. Conidiomata sporodochium-like, superficial, often fusing to form irregular plates, brown. Conidiogenous cells ampulliform to doliiform, angular in face view, dark brown, smooth, with a circular aperture situated in the upper side. Conidia uniseptate, cylindrical, hyaline, guttulate, with a filamentous appendage at each end, produced in a mucous pale yellow to brown mass. Sclerotia not reported. Appressoria not observed (adapted from Hernández-Restrepo et al. 2019).

Notes: Neomycoleptodiscus is distinct from Mycoleptodiscus in having conidiogenous cells that are dark brown, and conidia that are curved at the apex, and truncate at the base. Neomycoleptodiscus also has smaller conidial appendages compared to Mycoleptodiscus. Neomycoleptodiscus is a distinct genus in Muyocopronaceae (Hongsanan et al. 2020b). Molecular markers available for Neomycoleptodiscus are ITS, LSU, RPB2 and TEF-1.
