Importance and distribution

Caprettia comprises six species known on Cephaleuros (Trentepohliaceae) and on leaves. Caprettia setifera and C. tanzanica have been transferred to Porinula and Porinella, respectively. Caprettia is reported from Africa (Ethiopia), Central America (Costa Rica) and Oceania (Papua New Guinea). Species of Caprettia are lichenized, form functional organismic communities and capable of supporting photosynthesis (Zedda and Rambold 2015).
