Endococcus rugulosus

Importance and distribution

There are 77 Endococcus epithets in Index Fungorum (2022), but several species have been transferred to Cercidospora, Didymocyrtis, Didymosphaeria, Leptosphaerulina, Muellerella, Phaeospora, Polycoccum, Rosellinula, Sphaerellothecium, Staurothele, Stigmidium, Tichothecium, Verrucaria and Zwackhiomyces. Endococcus comprises 40 species known on a wide range of plants such as Aspicilia sp. (Megasporaceae), Fritzea lamprophora (Psoraceae), Huilia sp. (Asteraceae), Lecidea sp. (Lecideaceae), Lobaria sp. (Lobariaceae), Rhizocarpon sp. (Rhizocarpaceae), Usnea sp. (Parmeliaceae), and Xanthoria parietina (Teloschistaceae). Endococcus is reported from Central America (Panama) and Europe (Poland, United Kingdom).
