Description:

Saprobic on host. Sexual morph: Ascomata, peridium and asci not observed from microslide. Hamathecium 1.5−2.0 µm pseudoparaphysate, comprising septate cellular branched pseudoparaphyses. Ascospores 50−57 × 17−28 µm (x̄ = 53.8 × 23.6 µm, n = 10), brown to dark brown, uniseptate, ellipsoidal, symmetrical, rough-walled, longitudinally striate, middle septum darker brown, smooth-walled. Asexual morph: Unknown.

Material examined: Panama, Colon, Soberania National Park, Juan Grande River, on submerged decorticated wood, 12 January 2003, A. Ferrer (ILL00086247, Type).

Importance and distribution

Megalohypha comprises only one species known on decorticated wood submerged in river in Central America (Panama).
