Parasitic on conifer needles. Sexual morph: Ascomata simple, pseudoparaphysate, hypophyllous, subepidermal, becoming erumpent, orange to brown and disc-like at maturity; composed of a fruiting layer on an embedded stroma of densely interwoven, hyaline, thin-walled hyphae. Type species: Pseudoscypha abietis J. Reid & Piroz.
Notes: Pseudoscypha is characterised by simple, pseudoparaphysate ascomata, clavate, bitunicate, 8-spored asci and hyaline, 2-celled, fusoid-elliptic ascospores. Molecular data is lacking. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the systematic position of Pseudoscypha.
