Hysteroglonium Rehm ex Lindau, Nat. Pflanzenfamilien: 272 (1896).

Index Fungorum number: IF 2467; Facesoffungi number: FoF 08059, 3 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

Saprobic on wood. Sexual morph: Ascomata hysterothecial, superficial, longitudinal to host surface, straight, flat or convex on top, black, solitary, scattered, slightly shiny, semi-immersed, becoming superficial. Asci 8-spored, bitunicate, subcylindrical, apically rounded. Ascospores ellipsoid, rounded at both sides, hyaline, guttulate, aseptate, finally becoming pseudo-triseptate. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Doilom et al. 2018).

Type species: Hysteroglonium ovatum (Cooke) Lindau

Notes: Hysteroglonium is characterised by hysterothecial, superficial ascomata, subcylindrical, apically rounded asci, and ellipsoid, hyaline, guttulate aseptate ascospores that are rounded at both sides. Doilom et al. (2018) re-examined the syntype specimen K(M) 164027, but it was in poor condition. Hysteroglonium is a distinct genus in Hysteriaceae but molecular data is needed to verify the taxonomic placement of the genus.
