Epiphytes on living leaves. Sexual morph: Ascomata solitary, scattered, light brown, semi-transparent, circular, flattened, without ostiole, basal peridium poorly developed. Upper wall thin, membranous, composed of pale brown, interwoven, septate hyphae, with textura angularis, constricted at septa. Asci bitunicate, globose to subglobose. Paraphyses absent. Ascospores irregular overlapping, hyaline, ovoid or inequilateraluniseptate, constricted at the septum, verrucose, with appendages. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Zeng et al. 2018).

Notes: Translucidithyrium is characterised by solitary, scattered, light brown ascomata, globose to subglobose asci and ovoid or inequilateraluniseptate ascospores with appendages. Translucidithyrium resembles Lecideopsella in having scattered, solitary ascomata visible as flattened, grey spots, thin ascomatal upper walls, globose asci, anduniseptate ascospores. Translucidithyrium differs from Lecideopsella (Schizothyriaceae) in having a network-like structure in the ascostromata and ascal pedicels forming appendages around the hyaline ascospores while Lecideopsella is characterised by pale yellowish ascospores that are rounded at both ends. Translucidithyrium also resembles Micularia (Myriangiaceae) in having appendages around the ascospores, lacks an ascal pedicel and ocular chamber and flattened ascomata but differs in the arrangement of the ascomatal upper wall in Micularia. Translucidithyrium is a distinct and well-supported genus in Phaeothecoidiellaceae. Molecular markers available for Translucidithyrium are ITS, LSU, SSU and TEF-1.
