Goosia

Goosia B. Song, Mycotaxon 87: 413 (2003).

Index Fungorum number: IF 28768; Facesoffungi number: FoF 07963, 1 morphological species (Species fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

Parasitic on host. Colonies foliicolous, superficial, black, densely velutinous. Hyphae foliicolous, superficial. Appressoria brown. Phialides 1-celled, nearly ampulliform. Sexual morph: Ascomata on hyphae, stipitate, single, black, ellipsoid or elongate-ellipsoid, non ostiolate at centre. Asci ovate, with 2 spores. Ascospores brown, uniseptate. Asexual morph: Conidia unicellular, brown (adapted from Song 2003).

Type species: Goosia melastomatis B. Song

Notes: Goosia is characterised by dark brown phialides developing openly on the hyphae, and obovoid asci containing two ascospores (Bin 2003). Goosia resembles Thrauste in having superficial, ellipsoid ascomata and globose hyphopodia formed on dark brown hyphae. However, Thrauste lacks phialides and the ascospores are larger (Saccardo 1926; Müller and Arx 1962). Goosia is currently in Englerulaceae but fresh collections are needed to confirm the correct taxonomic position.
