Importance and distribution

There are 16 Wentiomyces species in Index Fungorum (2022), but five species have been transferred to Antennulariella, Dimeriella and Niesslia. Wentiomyces comprises sixteen species known on several host plants such as Achillea millefolium (Asteraceae), Cassiope tetragona (Ericaceae), Cistus sp. (Cistaceae), Clusia melchiori (Clusiaceae), Cynodon dactylon (Poaceae), Dryas octopetala (Rosaceae), Erlangea marginata (Asteraceae), Ficus elastica (Moraceae), Filipendula ulmaria (Rosaceae), Ixora parviflora (Rubiaceae), Persea gratissima (Lauraceae), Phillyrea angustifolia (Oleaceae), Pistacia lentiscus (Anacardiaceae), Saxifraga caespitosa (Saxifragaceae), Silene acaulis (Caryophyllaceae), and Sorghum vulgare (Poaceae). Wentiomyces is reported from Africa (Malawi), Asia (India, Myanmar), Europe (Italy, Norway, Sweden), North America (Canada), Oceania (Papua New Guinea) and South America (Brazil).
